Shiatsu has been used to treat a number of health problems including anxiety, back pain, headaches, Insomnia, constipation, skin problems and many others. The number one thing shiatsu Is good for Is decreasing and relieving stress levels
As poetic as the Japanese are, Shiatsu is often referred to as a healing art. Shiatsu is a hands-on therapy for pain relief that originated in Japan although its precepts are based on traditional Chinese medicine. Shiatsu is basically a form of massage using a pressure-point technique that applies the same theories on physiology as used in acupuncture. Its other techniques also include assisted stretching, manipulation and joint rotation release much like in other therapies like Massage, Physiotherapy, Acupressure, Osteopathy, Lymphatic Drainage, Do-in and others.
Shiatsu is effective in the stimulation of the circulation and flow of lymphatic fluid, detoxification, and release of deep-seated muscular tension. The treatment also stimulates different body systems: hormonal, immune system, and the autonomic nervous system and allows the patient to experience a state of deep relaxation that promotes the body’s own healing process.
Shiatsu is known to effectively treat a number of health conditions such as back pain, headaches, anxiety, insomnia, constipation, and skin problems among others. Perhaps the primary benefits to be derived from Shiatsu are in the reduction and relief of stress. Shiatsu calms the nervous system, and in doing so, strengthens one’s resistance to stress. It also improves the functions of the immune system and the circulatory systems. Furthermore, Shiatsu provides remedy for many stress-related disorders particularly those related to the digestive system, muscular-skeletal conditions, headaches and sleeping problems.
Shiatsu treatment involves the application of deep pressure on critical points. It provides the stimulation beneficial to the hormonal system and at the same time, enhances the performance and condition of the digestive system and the reproductive system. The treatment also brings relief to most if not all of the symptoms associated with many medical concerns.
With its gentleness, fluidity, and rhythmical motion, Shiatsu is able to effectively work on a person’s imbalances, particularly the postural and even behavioral imbalances that are responsible for many complaints. Correction of these imbalances leads to increased awareness in both mind and body that in turn promotes a general sense of well-being, happiness and peace of mind.
It may only require one session of Shiatsu to treat a particular health problem but there are people who prefer to undergo more sessions. Most of the time, Shiatsu is used as a preventative measure rather than as a "cure" for illnesses. Shiatsu techniques remove blockages within the body and restore the flow of energy along the different body channels for good health and wellness. Even after their treatments, Shiatsu patients are encouraged to maintain the balance of their energies through regular exercises and a healthy diet.
Shiatsu brings both the body and mind into a deep state of relaxation to provide the opportunity for natural healing to happen. Because of the stimulus to the major body systems, it is very much possible for one to experience symptoms after a Shiatsu treatment, especially after the first session. These symptoms are normal as they indicate that the body is eliminating the toxins and healing is taking place. Healing reactions vary from one person to the next. Some people report feeling cold or having flu-like symptoms while aches and pains, or headaches are common. These symptoms usually last for a day or two and you can expect them to subside with each subsequent treatment session.
