Aloe Vera For Skin Protection

If you are not aware of it, the skin acts as a shield or protective barrier from Invaders that could possibly do it harm. These Invaders can include poisons and toxins in the environment, bacteria and airborne viruses.

The natural way of relieving pain should not be restricted to what is happening inside the body.  It also concerns the external part, particularly the skin.  The skin is the largest organ of the body yet it is often neglected in times of sickness and even when we think we are healthy enough. We expose our skin everyday to the elements -- rain, snow, wind and sun -- which can be harsh and damaging.  Also, we apply various chemical preparations on the skin ranging from cosmetic products to soap and other cleansing solutions. Do not forget the powders, body sprays, colognes and the like. On top of these, we subject the skin to procedures using tools and substances -- shaving, depilatories, hot wax and scrubs.  Sooner or later, the skin will succumb to the abuse and demand relief from all these.

Mistreating the skin can result to a wide range of skin disorders including psoriasis, dermatitis, eczema, excessive dryness with flaking and scaling, sunburn and allergic reactions where there is redness, swelling, itchiness, and little bumps forming on the skin. Many people automatically resort to the use of antibiotic ointments or cortisone creams to treat skin diseases. However, this is not advisable as doing so may in fact be more harmful than you can imagine.  Ingredients of cortisone cream and many other topical antibiotics include steroids, which cause thinning of the skin, making it susceptible to infections and more sensitive to irritants.

The skin may be hardly appreciated but it performs an important function.  It acts as a shield and provides protection for the body against harmful foreign elements, which include environmental poisons and toxins, bacteria and many airborne viruses.  The skin should be able to thwart invasion of negative substances, but it can wear down over time especially when it has to take all the abuse we inflict on it. The skin then ages, sags, dries, becomes itchy and sometimes appears blotchy and reddish. Further degeneration of the skin can suppress the immune system, making the person more vulnerable to the flu and to head colds.

You can help the skin increase its defenses with the use of Aloe Vera, an extract from the Aloe Vera plant that has been used since ancient times to protect the skin and maintain its health.  It is said that Aloe Vera was the beauty secret of Cleopatra who used it to give her skin a natural glow and prevent the development of skin disorders.  The plant was also valued by Greek physicians who termed it miraculous for the healing of wounds and treatment of skin infections.

Aloe Vera creates a protective layer on the skin, keeping it safe against the harmful effects of exposure to the sun and the other elements, smoke, pollution and many other toxins in the environment.  Its use keeps the skin moisturized and increases the skin’s capability to hydrate itself. It provides flexibility to the skin that retards its aging.  Aloe Vera also hastens the healing of cuts, bruises and burns and helps minimize the formation of scars.  It has antibacterial property and safeguards open cuts and sores on the skins from being infected.  Aloe Vera products contain natural anti-inflammatory agents that relieve pain and many skin discomforts like redness and swelling, and soothe itchiness.
